Quick guide: Alcohol

Having diabetes doesn't mean you can never drink alcohol again. But, it is worth remembering that regularly drinking alcohol can:

  • cause weight gain or stop you from losing weight
  • have an effect on your blood pressure and your blood glucose
  • put you at risk of having hypos, especially if you are taking medicines.
  • have a negative effect on your mood.

Current recommendations are to have no more than 14 units of alcohol per week.
